I am a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Illinois Chicago. As a cultural anthropologist, I work on ethical and specialty commodities, sustainable food systems, cooperatives, and small-scale economies. My dissertation examines these formations through a critical ethnography of India’s organic farmers’ cooperatives and emerging markets for organic and traditional foods.
My research has been supported by the American Institute of Indian Studies Junior Research Fellowship for 2023-24 and several competitive grants from the University of Illinois Chicago. My work has been published in Food, Culture & Society and has received an honorable mention from the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society. I have presented my findings at the American Anthropological Association’s Annual Meeting as well as at regional and international conferences.
I am currently co-editing a special issue of Dialectical Anthropology on “Conjuring Alternative Worlds: Cooperatives, Social Movements, and the Future of Food and Climate,” which brings together contributions on the diversity of collective organizing and innovative production practices for a sustainable world.
